New Line within Field

I would like to be able to put text with carraige returns(new line) WITHIN A FIELD. Does anyone know how I can do that?

I should elaborate:

If a database that contains strange linefeed or carraige returns is imported, they don't show up as new line commands.

How can I import a tab delimited database with new line commands within a field?

You could try using textarea instead of text.
