Installation error under ubuntu

Hi,
I'm trying to install dadbik, but after editing config.php, when trying to connect 127.0.0.1/install.php, i get the following error:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: mysql_connect() in /var/www/include/adodb/drivers/adodb-mysql.inc.php on line 345

Why?? what can I do??

I'm running ubuntu linux 5.04, Apache 1.3.33, php 4.3.10, mysql_server 4.0.23. I think my config.php is OK.
