Child record count limit

I am new to this product. Is there any method to limit the creation of child item records for a particular parent record to no more then 'n' records??

Yes, I need to restrict the detail record count to no more than 'N' details per master record.

Thank you very much for the prompt response. I'll reorganize my logic to compensate.

It might be a 'low-cost' option to consider in the future for those of us that simulate/configure odd things. In my case network equipment where certain vendors impose a hard array size limit on their lists.
