For any field except from image_file fields, the corresponding value of the $parameters_ar array is NULL; for image_file fields, the hook can trigger a PHP error or store an empty value value instead of a NULL value in case the field was empty. This bug has been introduced with V 11.7 and affects both V 11.7 and V 11.8.
The related documentation, for before insert hooks, also contains a mistake: it stated that before insert hooks "receives as input an associative array containing all the values the user filled in the update form" (it should be "insert form").
