I try to use $_cp_return (in order to return error messages) in a fully operational custom function operational_hooks.php.

I do not get it working (meaning, I do not see anything happening) - so I have a number of questions:
- Is it possible in operational_hooks.php?
- Do I have to specify/define/... something in advance?
- Is something (AJAX-related) to be enabled?
