Can't edit - record is locked by user.

What causes this error.
How can I unlock such records.

Even if I log on a Root and verify no one else is online editing this error occurs.
You can't edit this item, item is locked by... (see image in link)

Hello,
typically this happens if a user enter a record in edit mode (lock the record in) and then leave the application, the record remains locked. After a while the record is automatically unlocked (set the time in config.php $seconds_after_automatic_unlock).
