Wildcards

I used to put wildcards into my "contains" searches in earlier versions of Dadabik.
It seems not to function any more. Solutions?

I have used % for several letters and _ for one letter.

"Pe_er" can give Peter and Peder (same name in danish, but alternatively spelled)

"%ristian" can give Christian and Kristian (same name in danish, but alternatively spelled)

Examples are legio when working with names in databases.

Hello,
if you look at the old dadabik documentation, you will find this:

Searching values containing % or _ using the "contains", "starts with" or "ends with" conditions could lead to wrong search results.

Wildcards were never officially supported and the behaviour you described was not intended, at some point (dadabik 8.3) the bug (or maybe from your point of view, the feature) has been fixed and since then % and _ are considered normal characters.

Best,

You are right.
From my point of view it was a brilliant feature. I never noticed any wrong results and wildcards like % and _ are commonly used on the net (libraries).

Thanks for the explanation.

In most of the cases, the final users of a DaDaBIK app don't know about wildcards and they expect that a search for % returns records containing %.
It might be an optional feature we can easily add, though.

Best,
