Formatting in single_select?

Is there a way to show a value from a lookup table, as it is formatted in the table?

F.e.: I have a numeric value in the lookup table that should be shown with spaces and a leading "0": "030 12 654"
If I use a single_select with lookup to this field I only get "3012654" to be shown in the single_select field.

To make it clear: inside the grid or the display the format is, as I want it to - but I would like to see the formatted value inside the insert and edit form, when I have to choose a value from a select_single field.

no in the edit/insert form the format of the linked fields is fixed.
