Hi,
I reduce often the search options to one, to reduce the amount of space needed. When only one option is possible, the selection field disappeared. Normally this is ok, but there may be situations, when the user wants to search with more options. He/she could do this with the search-button, but when i reduce the search options this works with the reduced search options, without need, cause here is nough space.
Perhaps you can offer two „search operator“ option-fields, one for quicksearch and one for the rest.
